Pendleton Academies was previously known as "Eastern Oregon Children's Multi-Treatment Center" or EOCMTC. In late 2005, the organization's board of directors approved a change in our name to Pendleton Academies and our formal motto to “education • treatment • success for every child.”

Pendleton Academies' Tipi Art

Pendleton Academies' name reflects the organization’s deep roots in Pendleton and better represents our commitment to helping children succeed in all aspects of their lives. Since Pendleton Academies is anything but institutional, we wanted a name that reflected more of who we are: nurturing, creative, forward-thinking, and inclusive.

The added benefit? It’s easy to remember.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Pendleton Academies strives to provide excellence in individualized, comprehensive assessment, treatment and education to children with emotional and/or behavioral educational difficulties and their families. Treatment includes culturally responsive psychosocial services that promote insight, self-worth and responsibility, healthy family relationships, moral stability, and social competence. Our primary therapeutic model is the cognitive-behavioral approach which encourages each child to better understand him- or her-self as a person, learn to think through challenges, build strengths and behaviorally practice solutions to personal, academic, familial, and interpersonal problems.

We believe that:

  1. Children with severe and multiple emotional problems have the right to a therapeutic process designed to increase their individual strengths in order to: develop internal behavioral controls; learn to use effective problem solving techniques; and become positive members in their own community.
  2. Challenging treatment issues are best addressed by a team of healthcare professionals, support persons within the community, and family members using creative, research-driven interventions that are sensitive to the child, and his or her family, culture and community.
  3. Normalizing experiences (like practicing good behavior while attending school and living in a family while being treated) aid in transitioning children back into their own family and community systems.
  4. Children and their biological, adoptive, and/or therapeutic host parents can assume active roles in the treatment planning process and delivery of services.
  5. Delivering the highest quality services will result in cost-effectiveness, by providing for short lengths of stay and long-lasting results.
  6. Physically holding children will only be used if the child is in danger of hurting him/herself or others in his/her surroundings.
  7. Medication management is a vital and viable tool in meeting the needs of many of our children and is considered on an individual basis with the guidance of experienced child psychiatrists on staff.
