What is Pendleton Academies? Pendleton Academies operates a therapeutic residential boarding school and treatment center. Education, counseling, and psychiatric services are provided children ages 5 years through 18 years suffering from emotional problems. Our motto, "Success for Every Child" drives our passion to help make this a reality for every child in attendance here.

How long do children attend school at Pendleton Academies? Depending on what services a child needs and what a parent may request, children may stay for a very short period of time, such as one or two days for crisis respite, or as long as several years for children attending from grade school until graduation from high school.

Who can refer a child for treatment? Anyone (e.g., parents, other family members, physicians, school counselors, clergy, social workers, juvenile justice workers, courts and tribal members) can request the services of Pendleton Academies. All children need permission from their legal guardian before admission.

Placement in our Children’s Therapeutic Families' (sometimes shortened to CTF) host homes occurs as soon, and as often, as possible. Nearly all of the children, depending on their needs, reside in Pendleton-area Children's Theraputic Family homes. Fourteen bedrooms are also available on site when needed for respite or security.

How are the residential therapeutic host families trained? They attend more than 30 hours of initial training sessions and participate in on-going monthly training activities that exceed state guidelines. Some are already mental health professionals working in the field either at Pendleton Academies or other area agencies. Host Family training is provided by Pendleton Academies and includes incorporating our nurturing philosophy of supporting, recognizing, and rewarding children for the gains they achieve.

After children are discharged is there ongoing follow-up to ensure they stay on the right track? Children and their families are contacted at 60 days, 6 months and one year following discharge for follow up on every child’s progress. Parents are encouraged to contact Pendleton Academies for support and advice following discharge. Our professional staff also works with community-based mental health care providers and school personnel when requested to ensure a successful transition from Pendleton Academies back to the family, school, and community.
