Pendleton Academies serves children and adolescents ages 5 through 18 years of age. Any child battling mental illness can be referred to us. In addition to successful residential school and treatment services, we also provide outstanding therapeutic day school to children from the surrounding communities.
Pendleton Academies provides educational, day treatment, and residential psychiatric services that help children and adolescents work toward healthy development in a nurturing environment. Our innovative model gives children the opportunity to learn to be successful in family, school, and community environments.
Our multi-pronged approach is not only very different from many programs and facilities – we are also confident in stating that we achieve better results than most programs. We do all of this because we love the children. And, we love the work. That’s why Pendleton Academies operates as a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 corporation.
Almost all children attending Pendleton Academies live with trained and talented host families who are part of the surrounding community. We strive to keep children out of dormitories. so that they have an opportunity to practice prosocial family living skills. Children attend Pendleton Academies’ top-quality school (affiliated with the Umatilla Morrow Education Service District), and participate in creative, leading edge treatment programs, such as our equine assisted therapy program.
With individualized attention, least restrictive environments, high staff ratios, and strong medical oversight, our program offers one of the most efficient and rapid rates of improvement and longest-term success rates among residential programs nationwide. Many of our private pay students are so successful at Pendleton Academies, excelling in school sometimes for the first time in their lives, that parents decide to continue their children's academic attendance here at Pendleton Academies for several years.
What Makes Us Special
Our nurturing philosophy—Pendleton Academies is a place where children can feel safe, protected, and cared for. Instead of using disciplinary models to correct behaviors, we work to get to the root of the problem and treat it compassionately.
Our unique multi-tiered model—Our innovative program gives children the opportunity to receive treatment and practice skills in school, home and community environments. Our highly successful partnership with local therapeutic treatment families helps children develop and use new life skills.
The individualized attention we provide—Children in large groups of psychiatrically ill and emotionally needy peers tend to reinforce each other’s behaviors. Instead of focusing on group therapy, we treat children one-on-one and in small group settings with many positive adult role models.
Our quick, comprehensive assessments—With a large team of professional observers evaluating children in a variety of settings, our staff can assess problems – faster and more accurately than most residential programs that observe children in limited residential situations – to determine the right level of services and treatment.
Our focus on medical leadership—With our model, board certified psychiatrists take a leadership role in the treatment and education of each child. With psychiatric reviews every week, our psychiatrists work hand-in-hand with our child psychologists, psychotherapists, pediatritian, nurse, and education staff to diagnose and build strengths in the treatment each child’s problems.
Pendleton Academies is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
